About
The Mission
To invest in the lives of others by offering spiritual solace, personal development and life-changing opportunities to disadvantaged urban youth and young adults.
The Vision
Learn to live like Jesus in a way that isn’t common to the world. Open opportunities for ministry in the Kansas City, Kansas urban community through a program that will provide community, offer a core curriculum for serving others and present urban youth and young adults opportunities to experience Christ.
What is It?
mission house is a group of young Christian adults who will come together to give a year of their life in service to Christ by making themselves available and being stewards of the neighborhood where they reside. This group will come together with the desire not only to be disciples but to create disciples.
To do this, mission house volunteers will partner with existing service organizations that closely deal with injustice, poverty, education, and faith as well as offer opportunities within the walls of the house and various places throughout the community to create relationships, be neighbors, serve others and to love like Jesus has instructed. This will be a community of people who have dedicated themselves for one year to teach, invest, grow and be used for God’s service in their community. They will mobilize God’s church outside the confines of four walls and take it into neighborhoods.
The Broad Goal
Take residence in a dwelling in the Kansas City, Kansas community to engage in community leadership as Christ followers. The facility will be used as a base of operations for individuals and/or groups to move into the community to encounter urban missions. mission house will:
§ Invest in the lives of one another as roommates by putting faith into action through opportunities in:
· training
· discipleship
· accountability
§ Invest in the lives of those living in our community by:
· focusing efforts on youth and young adults in the community
· making Kansas City, Kansas the mission field
◦ partnering with and creating sustaining relationships with existing community programs and groups
◦ committing ourselves to the service of existing community organizations
◦ use personal strengths to get involved in area schools (i.e. clubs, athletics, academics, etc…)
The Physical Structure
mission house will offer a family-style living experience with 6-8 individuals coming together to live, work, witness and interact in community. A program director will oversee the house schedule, direct mission work and manage the house finances. The physical structure and day-to-day operations will be a joint venture of each individual living in the house. Meals and living expenses will be taken from a general house fund with individual and group accountability offering a system of checks and balances.
Each individual at mission house must commit to the following to be considered for this mission role.
1. One year of volunteer service
2. Secure $15,000 in donated funds to help support the house and its activities for one year
3. Take residence for one year in the house located in Kansas City, Kansas
4. Partner with a volunteer organization that fits your skill sets and strengths (List of choices included).
5. Be open to being challenged
6. Be a neighbor and a roommate
7. Strive to love like Jesus
8. Allow God to work through you to show others Christ
mission house will be a ministry that is committed to pursuing holiness and offering opportunity to un-churched individuals to observe Christ in their own community. It is a ministry that is an organism, continually growing and moving. The commitment to this ministry may not always prove to be easy but mission house will offer an environment of peace and relaxation to those who live there and those who enter to experience God’s community church.

QT
(Tues-Sunday 8-10)
Each morning will stress personal growth. This will be a daily allocated timeframe that will be set aside to strengthen your personal growth. It will be a time to get into the Word, to work through curriculum and reading with other team members, a time to pray for the day and one another, and most importantly a time to come together in accountability. This is your time of worship. Guys and girls break apart on Thursdays for structured accountability.

Community Involvement
(Tues-Friday 10-6)
This is the heart of our mission. Community involvement is intended to be your act of consistent daily service. The idea behind being committed to our neighborhoods and communities is supporting existing ministries and projects. During community involvement we will commit 25-40 hours a week to volunteering in an organization that fits to the strengths of each individual. The idea is to find a permanent organization to consistently serve in for each individual, building relationships by making ourselves available, and using the strengths of the team to invest in area schools and after school programs.

Weekends on Wednesday
(Wed 7-9)
WOW is our time of worship with our neighborhood. On Wednesday nights we will open our doors to the people we have been investing in for worship. Each week one of the team members will prepare and lead a time of scripture reading and teaching. Also we will take the opportunity to pray for one another and our community, as well as worship together with music. This may take place in the house, or a park, community building, or anywhere really. WOW is not limited to a location but is more so our opportunity to worship together as roommates as well as a chance to worship with those we serve daily.

Topical Learning
(Thurs 7-9)
Each month will be defined by a topic. This topic will relate to areas of our lives personally that are most susceptible to needing growth and improvement especially concerning communal living and urban ministry. Each month there will be a topic, i.e. Sabbath. With that topic will be a leader from outside of our community who will take the time to guide us scripturally and spiritually so that we may have the opportunity to be filled up and equipped.
We will take time on Thursday evenings to discuss and work through each topic as a group.

Train MH
(Friday 7-9)
*Bi-weekly
There will be an introductory retreat intended to lay out the expectations and to get to know one another as well as training relating to building relationships, serving our community, and bringing Jesus to our neighborhood. Along with the beginning retreat we will come together a couple of times a month to build off one another and expand in the previous areas by teaching from what we have learned in our day-to-day service.

Area Prayer
(Sat 10)
Area prayer is about an hour that is set aside each week to walking the streets of the neighborhood and intentionally praying for people. This time gives us a chance to make our prayer mobile. Mobile prayer gives us the opportunity to be more fully engaged in specific prayer for specific people, houses, businesses, and blocks. With area prayer we are committing Christ to our community through us.

Area Outreach
(Sat 11-2(3))
Area Outreach is our opportunity as a house to be neighbors. While this time period flows with Area Prayer, this is our chance to be able to serve our neighbors hands on. During the winter this may be as simple as shoveling snow from sidewalks. It could entail a neighbor needing help cleaning gutters or mowing a lawn. Regardless the task we are making ourselves available. This is our time to invest ourselves into those who live closest to us.

House Duties
(Sat 3-5)
Not only on Saturday afternoons do we have the opportunity to serve our neighbors, but we also have the opportunity to serve our roommates. House Duty time is when we as roommates come together and take care of our weekly chores. The list of house duties will not be long but thorough and jobs will rotate from week to week. Also, House Duties is specifically placed on Saturday afternoons to make sure the house is upstanding for Open House.

Open House/Dinner
(Sat 6-9)
*Monthly or bi-weekly
Open House is a time for us to invite our neighbors into our home. We will enjoy a meal and create relationships by opening our doors, yard, and hearts by being in community with them.

Church
(Sun 10-12)
Get involved with a local church or ministry in the area. Be a part of the congregation and love on the members of the church. They, sometimes, are the ones who are searching for Jesus the most. This may not be comfortable or a church like you are used to but it is worship and community and a great way to be a part of your neighborhood.

Team Lunch/Debrief
(Sun 1-4)
Team Lunch is a great way to close a service week the same way that we started it, with a meal. We will prepare and enjoy a meal together while discussing the highs and lows of the week. This gives us the opportunity to learn from one another and also know where to be praying for one another and where we can pick each other up. Debriefing is a time to be vulnerable about our ministry (individual and group) and build from where we are.

Indulge
(Sun 6-8)
*Monthly
Indulge is our time to be fed as a community of roommates. We will pour out everything that we have day in and day out and Indulge is here to feed our spirit. Indulge is a time when we will have guest speakers, friends or different ministries come to the house and hang out with us. It is an opportunity for us to get to learn from people we are not living with or working along side. While the message may be in line with our Curriculum and/or [Pain]Train for that week, it will be a time period where we have no commitments other than to just listen and be receptive.

Sabbath
(Monday)
This is your time of rest. The biggest thing to remember about Sabbath is that even though we have the day off we are still in community, and we are still neighbors no matter if we stay in the house or get away for a few hours. We are still serving as neighbors.
